Guen *hearts* Korean-ness

Really, nothing beats spur-of-the-moment meals at the most unusual places.  Yesterday’s lunch was so good, especially that it was for free!  Hehe!

Just right about half past noon, someone announced that it was lunch time for us, and Guen was harassed to give a birthday treat.  Jona and Malu made good use of their ‘manipulative talents’ to ensure that everything will be covered:
✔celebrant harassed to treat us out
✔boss invited to join (hence, no worries of being hunted down for not being at the resort)
✔lunch treat announced to everyone, making it impossible to cancel (makakasira ng reputation)
Malu, Guen and Jona
Off we were to…no one really knew.  We heard steak house, Chinese, then Korean.  Five minutes away the row of restaurants we were headed for, we still did not know.  Oo, ganyan talaga kami araw-araw.  If we were inside the Island, we could’ve been riding the tram, confusing the driver where to take us.  It gets even worse when we’ve finally seated down, menus on our hands, then one suddenly decides she does not like the food there.  Yes, SHE, because it is almost always a SHE who changes her mind.

Jona, Lea and I were thrilled with the idea of having Korean lunch.  But we did not want to be insensitive of the celebrant’s food preference, she might want Chinese.  We were sure that she takes great pleasure from her Korean series marathons, but Korean food, hmmm…  Pero extra generous and kind and sweet and patient si Guen because it’s for her birthday – Jona assumed all those, so she decided we go for Korean.

Just a few meters away from the Cavite EPZA is Nolboo.  Located on the 2nd floor, one would hardly notice its plain, uncomplicated signage.  Even its entrance door is away from the curious who may want to stop by, had they seen.

Having been there once, I knew we were in for a very-close-to-an-authentic treat.  It was Raisa’s 1st Korean meal in a Korean restaurant.

For starters, we had all these.  Actually, 3 sets of all these!
the dilis, not the kimchi, was the blockbuster. it was perfectly sweet and spicy.
I don't know how Koreans do it, but I devoured it this way...

...with this.

Our favorites.
all-time favorite Chapchae
how can you go wrong with grilled beef and pork?
Bulgogi
smoking hot Korean beef stew melted in your mouth
We also tried some dishes foreign to us.
Soft tofu stew and Steamed egg
It was a relief to see that the celebrant enjoyed the meal as much as she did the series.  Proof: she had 3 bowls of the soft tofu stew.
Guen's birthday is today, April 16th

Happy, happy birthday dear Guen!  Thank you for the very satisfying Korean lunch ☺
